Rotary Kiln Hot Spot Detection

Electro Optical Industries' kiln scanners provide the highest resolution and sensitivity in order to give the earliest warnings of a single refractory brick fall.  In industries that use rotary kilns, thermal scanning to monitor the evolution of hotspots, preventing any risk of permanent, long-term damage is paramount.

Hot spot detection with Kilnscan

Cement, lime, refractory, aluminum and iron ore producers using rotary kilns throughout the manufacturing process must continuously monitor their production for any hot spots, as a single refractory brick fall could cause a serious delay in the process. In order to be able to detect a small area on a kiln from a single brick fall, a kiln system evaluation instrument must be carefully selected that has an enhance spatial and thermal resolution. In addition, the infrared detector's signal noise must also be as low as possible to be able to accurately monitor these small changes in temperature.

With the highest spatial resolution and thermal sensitivity on the market, EOI's infrared scanners can accurately and reliably detect any hot spot at an early stage in the production as well as evaluate brick lining wear (in real-time), coating thickness and kiln axis warp.

Kilnscan provides:

  • Several alarms for early event detection (which can also be linked to fans)
  • An internal blackbody to give reliable measurements (assuring no drift over time)
  • Accurate temperature measurements which are not affected by any heterogeneous instruments' miscalibration
  • A full thermal profile in real time

Kilnscan provides an early warning of any hot spot formation with continuous 24/7 monitoring of each individual refractory within the kiln.
